# What are places or geofences

You have the option to create places in a group or your **Personal Space**, which are significant locations or in other terms **geofences**, such as your home, school, work, gym, etc. You or other members can then be notified when someone enters or leaves a place.

By default, place notifications are enabled for all members besides you so you are not notified about your own location when you enter or leave a place.

You can turn the notifications on or off for all members and for every place individually. Or you can even customize place notification settings for individual member.
