Guest accounts and how to convert them
What is a guest account?
A guest account in Paralino allows you to quickly start using the app without having to create an email and password. Credentials for the guest account are generated and stored securely on your device.
How guest accounts work
When you create a guest account, Paralino generates secure credentials that are stored only on your current device. This allows for quick setup while maintaining the same level of security and encryption for your data.
Limitations of guest accounts
While guest accounts provide a quick way to get started with Paralino, they come with some limitations:
- Single device only: Guest accounts can only be used on the device where they were created.
- No recovery option: If you lose your device or uninstall the app, you cannot recover your guest account.
- No cross-device synchronization: You cannot use your guest account on multiple devices.
Only one device
You will not be able to recover your guest account or log in on another device unless you convert it to a regular account.
How to convert a guest account to a regular account
If you started with a guest account but now want the benefits of a regular account (such as multi-device support and account recovery), you can convert your guest account to a regular account:
- Open the Paralino app and make sure you’re logged in with your guest account.
- Click on your “Profile Icon”.
- Click on “Account”.
- Look for the “Convert Account” option and click on it.
- Enter your desired email address.
- Create a strong password and confirm it.
- Click on “Convert Account”.
Password security
Since your password is used to end-to-end encrypt your data, make sure to use a strong password and store it securely. We recommend using a password manager to generate and store a very strong, random password.
Benefits of converting to a regular account
Converting your guest account to a regular account offers several advantages:
- Multi-device access: Share your location from multiple devices and link them to the same account.
- Account recovery: Ability to recover your account if you forget your password.
- Personal device tracking: Track and manage all your devices under one account.
- Future-proof: Ensure long-term access to your location sharing data and groups.
Once you’ve converted your guest account to a regular account, you’ll have all the same features and security as if you had created a regular account from the beginning, while keeping all your existing data and connections.
