App Permissions

Paralino only request permissions that are necessary for the app’s core functionality - location sharing and communication with your trusted contacts. Permissions are also only required if you are actively sharing your location.

Location Permissions#

Location permissions are essential for Paralino’s core functionality:

• Approximate location (network-based): Allows Paralino to determine your general location using Wi-Fi and mobile networks. This is used when GPS is unavailable or when precise location isn’t needed.

• Precise location (GPS and network-based): Enables Paralino to determine your exact location using GPS, which is essential for accurate location sharing with your trusted contacts.

• Background location access (always-on): Allows Paralino to access your location even when the app is not actively in use. This is essential for reliable location sharing with your trusted contacts, or when you want to share your location for an extended period.

Connection Information#

• Read phone status and identity: This permission allows Paralino to share your network type (Wi-Fi, 4G, 5G) and signal strength with your trusted contacts. This information helps provide context about your connectivity status when sharing your location.

• View Wi-Fi connections: This permission helps Paralino determine if your device is online, if you’re connected to Wi-Fi network and what is the strength of your Wi-Fi signal. Similar to Read phone status permission, it is used to in case you are sharing your network status.

Other Permissions#

• Receive data from Internet: Allows Paralino to receive updates, sync location data, and communicate with your contacts.

• View network connections: Helps Paralino detect when your device has an internet connection, which is necessary for sharing location data.

• Full network access: Required for Paralino to connect to the internet and synchronize data with your contacts.

• Run at startup: Allows Paralino to start automatically when you turn on your device or update the app to a new version, ensuring continuous location sharing and the ability to receive notifications.

• Prevent device from sleeping: Enables Paralino to update your location periodically, even when your device is idle. This is optimized to minimize battery usage.

• Notification access: Allows Paralino to send you push notifications about important events, such as when someone starts sharing their location with you, or when a trusted contact enters or leaves a designated area.

Our Commitment to Privacy#

Paralino is designed with privacy as a core principle:

1. Minimal data access: We only access what’s necessary for the app to function in certain moment.
2. End-to-end encryption: Your location data is encrypted and only visible to those you explicitly share it with.
3. No data sharing: We never sell or share your data with third parties - it is not even possible due to end-to-end encryption.

Remember that restricting certain permissions may affect Paralino’s ability to function properly. If you are only using the app to check someone else’s location, you do not have to grant any permissions to Paralino.
