Manual Location Updates
Paralino’s “Try to locate” feature allows you to request immediate location updates from your group members when their location information hasn’t been updated recently. This premium feature helps you get the most current location information when you need it.
How It Works
When a group member’s device hasn’t updated their location in a few minutes, you’ll see a “Try to locate” button on their profile card. Tapping this button sends a high-priority request to their device, attempting to wake it up and trigger a location update.
When to Use
The “Try to locate” button appears automatically when:
- A group member is actively sharing their location with you
- Their device hasn’t updated its location in a few minutes
- Your group has a premium subscription
This feature is particularly useful when:
- You need to know someone’s current location more urgently
- A group member’s device may be in a low-power state
- Background location updates are delayed due to system optimizations
How to Request a Manual Update
To request a manual location update:
- Open the Paralino app
- Navigate to your group
- Find the member whose location you want to update
- If their location hasn’t been updated recently, you’ll see a “Refresh” or “Try to locate” button
- Tap the button to send the update request
What to Expect
After tapping the “Try to locate” button:
- The app will send a high-priority request to the member’s device
- It may take a few minutes for their device to respond and update its location
- If you don’t see an update after a few minutes, you can try again
- The success rate depends on the other device’s settings and current state (battery level, connectivity, etc.)
Response Time
Location updates are not instantaneous. It may take a few minutes for the other device to respond to your request, depending on its battery level, connectivity, and system state.

Starting from Paralino iOS version 1.0.6, iOS users can receive manual location update requests as well.
Troubleshooting
If the “Try to locate” feature isn’t working as expected:
- Always on location permission: Ensure that the “Always on location permission” is enabled for the Paralino app.
- Button not appearing: Ensure the group member is actively sharing their location and that your group is premium
- No response: The member’s device may be turned off, in airplane mode, or have no internet connection
- Delayed updates: Try again after a few minutes, as the device may need time to process the request

Privacy Considerations
The “Try to locate” feature respects user privacy:
- It only works if the member is already sharing their location with you
- Members are always in control of their location sharing settings

- Members can disable location sharing at any time
